Mac Mini - Two Days Later

By · · 1 min read

Two days after receiving my Mac Mini, I’ve grown rather attached to Mac OS X and the assorted applications that come with it.

One of the first things I installed was Lotus Notes 6.5 for Mac OS X, and I am composing this journal entry from within that.

One application I intend on investigating more is Garageband 2 (the Mac Mini comes with iLife ‘05). Music has always been a passion of mine, and I’d like to get back into creating music (I’m reasonably good at piano; although a little rusty from lack of practice lately). In the near future I’ll be buying a MIDI keyboard - most likely the M-Audio Keystation 49e which is available for around AU$200.

One of the things I regret doing with my Mini is deciding against upgrading to 512MB RAM (although this would have potentially delayed my order). According to various forum posts that I’ve read, upgrading to 512MB is fairly simple - open the lid, pop out the 256MB module and pop in a new 512MB RAM module.

As time goes by, I’ll naturally get more acquainted with Mac OS X and overall more comfortable (although I feel rather comfortable already). I think it’s safe to say that I’d consider myself a “switcher” and will eventually look at the higher end Macs that are available (yes, I admit that I probably fit Apple’s perfect target market with the mini - first the person buys an iPod… check, then a Mini… check, then contemplates the higher end Apple products.. check, and eventually purchases them.. still to come) :-)

I shall end this entry there as I have a family BBQ tomorrow and am about to go to bed after a rather long day (12 hour work shift today).

Until next time!
